Detroit Red Wings Make Nine Selections on Second Day of 2023 NHL Entry Draft
Team Adds Four Defensemen, Three Forwards, and Two Goaltenders
DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Red Wings selected nine players on the second day of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, continuing their efforts to rebuild the team.
The Red Wings selected four defensemen, three forwards, and two goaltenders, with their first pick coming at 38th overall. With that pick, they selected defenseman Ty Nelson from the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Nelson is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound defenseman who is known for his skating ability and puck-handling skills.
The Red Wings also selected two other defensemen in the second round, with the 41st overall pick going to Daniil Chayka from the OHL’s Erie Otters and the 56th overall pick going to Eemeli Räsänen from the Finnish Elite League. Chayka is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman who is known for his physical play, while Räsänen is a 6-foot, 180-pound defenseman who is known for his puck-moving abilities.
In the third round, the Red Wings selected forward Dylan Guenther from the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings with the 74th overall pick. Guenther is a 6-foot, 180-pound forward who is known for his scoring ability and playmaking skills.
The Red Wings also selected two other forwards in the fourth round, with the 105th overall pick going to Michael Misa from the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves and the 121st overall pick going to Carter Mazur from the USHL’s Tri-City Storm.
