Mason Marchment Fined $5,000 for Interference Hit
NHL Makes Controversial Decision on Blindside Hit
Stars Forward Punished for Incident Involving Jake McCabe
NEW YORK (February 8, 2024) - Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), for interference in a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the first period of the game when Marchment delivered a blindside hit on Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe. McCabe was bloodied on the play and left the game. He did not return.
The NHL Department of Player Safety reviewed the play and determined that Marchment's hit was illegal. The league issued a statement saying that the hit was "late, high, and from a blindside position." The league also noted that Marchment has a history of similar incidents.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the CBA. It is the first time that Marchment has been fined by the NHL this season.
The Stars are currently in last place in the Central Division with a record of 22-31-8. They will face the Sabres again on Saturday in Buffalo.
