Jung Hae-in Says He Felt No Pressure to Match ‘Veteran’ Performance in ‘I, the Executioner’
Promising Prospects
Jung Hae-in, the breakout star of 2016’s “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,” says he didn’t feel any pressure to match the success of his performance in that film when he took on the lead role in “I, the Executioner.”“I think ‘Veteran’ and ‘I, the Executioner’ are two very different films,” Jung said. “‘Veteran’ was a very action-packed film, while ‘I, the Executioner’ is more of a psychological thriller. So I didn’t feel like I had to do anything special to match my performance in ‘Veteran.’ I just wanted to focus on creating a new character and telling a new story.”
Action vs Thriller
Jung’s performance in “I, the Executioner” has been praised by critics, who have called it one of his best performances to date. The film tells the story of a young man who becomes a serial killer in order to avenge the death of his sister.“Jung Hae-in is excellent in the lead role,” said one critic. “He brings a lot of depth and nuance to the character. This is a must-see film for fans of Korean cinema.”
