Two Dutch masters come together in a special TV event

On Sunday 30th April 2023, ZDFneo will broadcast a special TV event dedicated to the work of two Dutch masters: Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt.

The program, which will be presented by art historian and TV presenter Dr. Bénédicte Savoy, will feature a selection of the artists' most iconic works, including van Gogh's "The Starry Night" and Rembrandt's "The Night Watch".

Savoy will discuss the lives and careers of the two artists, and explore the similarities and differences between their work. She will also be joined by a number of experts, who will provide insights into the techniques and materials used by van Gogh and Rembrandt.

Van Gogh and Rembrandt: A comparison

Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt van Rijn are two of the most celebrated artists in Western history. Both were born in the Netherlands, and both produced some of the most iconic works of art in the world.

However, there are also some key differences between the two artists. Van Gogh was a post-impressionist, while Rembrandt was a baroque artist. This difference in style is evident in their use of color and light.

Van Gogh's work is characterized by its vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes. He often used thick layers of paint, and his paintings are often full of movement and energy.

Rembrandt's work, on the other hand, is more subdued and realistic. He used a more limited palette of colors, and his paintings are often more focused on capturing the human form.

Despite their differences, van Gogh and Rembrandt are both considered to be masters of their craft. Their work has inspired generations of artists, and it continues to be celebrated today.
